Is Instagram considering a paid verification system? Code reveals references to a ‘paid blue badge’
It seems that Instagram may be considering a paid verification system, if code found in the app is anything to go by.
References to a ‘paid blue badge’ have been discovered in the code of the app, leading to speculation that Instagram could soon start charging users for verified status.
At the moment, verified status on Instagram is only given to celebrities, influencers and other public figures.
But if the app does Introduce a paid verification system, it would open up the possibility for regular users to get verified.
This would no doubt be a popular move, as verified status on social media platforms confers a certain level of prestige and can help users to stand out from the crowd.
Of course, it remains to be seen whether Instagram will actually go ahead with a paid verification system.
