Nintendo Direct February 2023: the biggest news and trailers

It’s that time again. The leaves are falling, the pumpkins are out, and Nintendo has just dropped a brand new Direct on us without any warning whatsoever. As always, there are a ton of new announcements and trailers to parse through, so let’s just jump right in, shall we?
First up is the big one: the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This is the first mainline Zelda game in years that isn’t a remake or a spinoff, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s coming to Switch and Wii U next year, and it looks like it’s going to be a huge open-world adventure.
Next up is a new game from PlatinumGames, the studio behind Bayonetta and NieR: Automata. It’s called Astra Lost in Space, and it’s an action-RPG set in outer space. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and it’s coming to Switch in 2019.
There’s also a new Animal Crossing game coming to Switch next year. It’s called Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it looks like it’s going to be a huge overhaul of the series. Instead of being set in a town, it takes place on a deserted island, and you’ll be able to craft your own furniture and buildings.
And that’s just the beginning! Nintendo also announced a whole host of new games coming to Switch Online, the company’s new online service for Switch. This includes a bunch of old favorites like Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3, as well as some new additions like Splatoon 2 and Arms.
There’s also a bunch of new indie games coming to Switch, including bloodstained: ritual of the night, Hollow knight: voidheart edition, and the long-awaited final fantasy VII remake.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Nintendo also announced a bunch of new amiibo, a new Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and a whole lot more. Be sure to check out the full list of announcements and trailers from the Nintendo Direct below.
