A touchscreen that erases fingerprints for you? It could become a reality

Smartphone screens have become an integral part of our everyday lives, so it’s no surprise that companies are now looking for ways to make them even more user-friendly.

One such company is General Motors, who have recently been granted a patent for a self-cleaning touchscreen display.

The patent, which was filed back in 2018, describes a system that uses ultraviolet light to clean the display and remove any smudges or fingerprints.

The system would work by shining UV light on the touchscreen overnight, with the light being strong enough to break down the oils and dirt that cause smudges.

GM isn’t the only company looking into self-cleaning displays, with Samsung and LG also holding patents for similar technology.

However, it’s unclear if or when any of these companies will actually bring a self-cleaning display to market.

In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep wiping our screens clean the old-fashioned way!
