Civilization VII officially in development

The next installment in the Civilization franchise is officially in development, with Firaxis Games president leaving the studio to work on the new title.
The news was announced via a post on the 2K website, confirming that Civilization VII is in development and that it is being worked on by a “new team” at Firaxis.
“We’re excited to announce that Civilization VII is in development at Firaxis Games,” the post reads. “The new team is led by Sean Bean, who has been with the franchise since Civilization IV.”
Bean is the only named member of the new team, but the post notes that the team is “filled with Civilization veterans”.
“The team’s goal is to create the best Civilization game ever made – one that is true to the spirit of the franchise and will stand the test of time,” the post continues.
There is no word on when Civilization VII will be released, but it is likely to be some time away given that it is in the early stages of development.
In the meantime, fans of the franchise can tide themselves over with the upcoming Civilization VI: Rise and Fall expansion, which is set to release on February 8th.
