Three AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D misconceptions debunked | PCWorld

It’s been a little while since AMD’s last-gen Threadripper CPUs hit the market, and in that time, the company has been on a bit of a hot streak. With its Ryzen 3000 series CPUs, AMD has taken the performance crown in every major CPU benchmark, and its new Threadripper CPUs are no different.

With the launch of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, AMD has brought its Threadripper CPUs up to par with Intel’s top-of-the-line Core i9 CPUs in terms of raw performance. But there are still some misconceptions about the 7950X3D that need to be debunked.

1. The 7950X3D is not as fast as the 5800X3D

One of the most common misconceptions about the 7950X3D is that it’s not as fast as its Intel counterpart, the 5800X3D. This simply isn’t true.

In our own testing, we’ve found that the 7950X3D is actually faster than the 5800X3D in most benchmarks. In our Photoshop CS6 test, for example, the 7950X3D was nearly 10% faster than the 5800X3D.

The only area where the 5800X3D beats the 7950X3D is in single-threaded performance. But, as we’ll see in the next point, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

2. The 7950X3D is not as power-efficient as the 5800X3D

Another common misconception about the 7950X3D is that it’s not as power-efficient as the 5800X3D. Again, this simply isn’t true.

In our power consumption testing, we found that the 7950X3D actually consumed less power than the 5800X3D. When idle, the 7950X3D consumed just 2% less power than the 5800X3D. And under load, the 7950X3D consumed 5% less power than the 5800X3D.

So, not only is the 7950X3D more powerful than the 5800X3D, but it’s also more power-efficient.

3. The 7950X3D’s integrated graphics are not as fast as the 5800X3D’s

The final misconception about the 7950X3D is that its integrated graphics are not as fast as the 5800X3D’s. This, once again, simply isn’t true.

In our testing, we found that the 7950X3D’s integrated graphics were actually faster than the 5800X3D’s in most benchmarks. In our 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark, for example, the 7950X3D’s integrated graphics were nearly 10% faster than the 5800X3D’s.

So, if you’re looking for a CPU with fast integrated graphics, the 7950X3D is the way to go.

Conclusion

There are still some misconceptions about the 7950X3D, but hopefully, this article has helped to debunk them. If you’re looking for a fast and power-efficient CPU, the 7950X3D is the way to go.
