Apple, Atari, and Commodore, oh my! Explore a deluxe home vintage computer den
For the uninitiated, the home computer revolution of the 1970s and 1980s may seem like a realm of vintage devices and quaint curiosities. But for those of us who lived through it, home computing is a near-mythical time when possibilities seemed limitless and every new application or game felt like a small miracle.
I was lucky enough to come of age during this golden era of home computing, and my childhood bedroom soon became a temple to the latest and greatest machines. My first computer was an Apple ][+, and it was quickly joined by an Atari 800 and a Commodore 64. These were my tools for exploring a brave new world of digital possibilities, and I spent hours upon hours tinkering with them.
Fast-forward to today, and I find myself with a different kind of computer in my home: aDeluxe Home Vintage Computer Den. This is a shrine to the home computing revolution, a place where I can relive those glory days and (re)discover the magic of these machines.
The Den is outfitted with all the essentials: a trio of vintage computers, a bevy of classic games and applications, and a comfortable chair for hours of exploration. It’s a veritable feast for the senses, and I can’t help but spend hours lost in nostalgia as I explore the remarkable machines of my youth.
Whether I’m delving into the unique history of the Apple Lisa or rediscovering the joys of early desktop publishing, the Den is a constant source of delight. And as someone who spends much of my time writing about today’s cutting-edge technology, it’s a welcome reminder of the simple pleasures that can be found in exploring the past.
