iOS 17 may be much more than a maintenance update

Apple plans to release iOS 17 later this year and it is shaping up to be a much more significant update than initially expected. According to well-respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company has added several features to the software that were not originally part of the plan.

One of the most requested features set to finally make its debut in iOS 17 is the ability to sideload apps. This would allow iPhone and iPad users to install apps from sources other than the App Store, which is a major change for Apple’s walled garden ecosystem.

Another significant addition is the ability to run multiple instances of the same app side-by-side. This has been a popular feature on Android for years and will finally come to iOS with the release of iOS 17.

There are also several smaller features that are included in the update that will make it a more significant release than a typical maintenance update. These include a revamped Home Screen, new Siri features, and improvements to Apple Maps.

Overall, it sounds like iOS 17 is shaping up to be a pretty significant update for iPhone and iPad users. We’ll have to wait and see how everything comes together when the software is officially released later this year.
