Google starts letting the public test generative AI in Gmail and Docs

The era of machines finally write for us is here. After years of development, Google has started to roll out its artificial intelligence (AI) writing feature to select Gmail and Docs users. The new “Help me write” feature employs a generative neural network, which can come up with words and phrases on its own after being trained on a large text corpus.
While the feature is currently only available to a small number of users, it’s clear that Google is betting big on AI-powered writing. The company has been investing heavily in AI and has even made it a core part of its business strategy.
Given the recent advances in AI, it’s not surprising that Google is looking to use the technology to improve its productivity tools. After all, AI has the potential to make a huge impact on our productivity by automating tasks that are currently done by humans.
One example of this is the “Smart Compose” feature in Gmail, which uses AI to suggestions words and phrases as you type. The feature is currently available to all users and has been shown to boost productivity.
The “Help me write” feature takes things a step further by actually generating words and phrases on its own. This is possible because the feature is powered by a generative neural network, which has been trained on a large text corpus.
Although the feature is still in its early stages, it’s clear that Google is extremely bullish on AI-powered writing. In fact, the company has even filed for a patent on the technology.
So far, the feedback from users has been positive, with many saying that the feature has saved them a lot of time. Given the early success of the feature, it’s likely that we’ll see it rolled out to more users in the near future.
