New York Phil to launch big Apple app

It’s official: the New York Philharmonic has launched its very own app, and it’s available for download now on the Apple App Store. If you’re a classical music fan, you’re probably already aware of the wealth of content that the world’s most prestigious orchestra has to offer. But for those who are new to the scene, or just looking for a way to access NY Phil content on the go, the new app is definitely worth checking out.

The app itself is rather straightforward: it provides users with direct access to the orchestra’s various digital offerings, including live broadcasts, on-demand performances, and educational content. One of the app’s most intriguing features is its “Immerse Yourself” function, which allows users to experience select live performances from multiple angles. This is achieved by placing the user’s device in front of a speaker, which will then play back a selection of recorded performances.

Interestingly, the app also includes a section devoted to the history of the New York Philharmonic. For classical music aficionados, this is an invaluable resource, as it provides context and background information on the orchestra’s rich tradition.

All in all, the New York Philharmonic’s new app is a welcome addition to the world of classical music. While it may not be the most comprehensive or feature-rich offering out there, it provides a solid foundation on which the orchestra can build in the future. And with a growing number of people accessing content on their mobile devices, it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
